2) Make Sure You Clean Your Tank Weekly: How often you clean your tank depends on a few factors, but the important thing is to keep it balanced at a safe level so your fish can continue to thrive. I try to change about 10 percent of my water about once a week, and then take the aquarium accessories and wash them around once a month.

3) Keep your aquarium in a safe place: Even though its tempting to place an aquarium in that special spot in your room, you really need to make sure it is away from direct sunlight. Sunlight will cause algae to grow and can also raise the water temperature to an uncomfortable point for your pets.
